Holiday Thoughts to Ponder

-If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million that will not survive the week.

-If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.

-If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

-If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.

-If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

-If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because the majority can, but most do not.

-If you can hold somebody's hand, hug them or even touch them on the shoulder, you are blessed because you can offer God's healing touch.

-If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing, in that someone was thinking of you, and furthermore, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world who cannot read at all.

-You live among the top few percent of all the world's people. Feel your power, and be thankful! Instead of stressing, see how good you already have it, and appreciate the unlimited potential you have to make things even better.

-In this holiday season, let's remind ourselves of all we have to be grateful for -- our health, our families, our work, the freedoms we too often take for granted -- and of course, our wonderful healing art, chiropractic. Have a great Holiday, count your blessings, and remind everyone else how blessed we all are.

"Safe Over-the-Counter
Cold Medications." --Not!!

Around last month's election fiasco, the FDA had decided to pull cold remedies and appetite suppressants containing phenylpropanolamine (PPA) off the shelves, because they've been linked to hemorrhagic stroke (at least 200-500 per year just in people under 50). For whatever reason it has been effecting women between the ages of 17-45 the most.

What's even more frustrating is that medical journals have noted this problem since the 1980s, but for some reason have decided to tell us about this only now. It turns out that this drug may have never won final FDA over-the-counter approval in the first place. If you still decide you want to use a cold remedy, you have other brands to choose from without PPA, with the diet products you do not.

Over 6 billion dosages of the over thirty cold medications and diet pills that contain PPA are consumed each year in this country. That's an average of 24 doses per year, per person in this country. Two pills per month. Now, I've never used these drugs, my son never has, neither has my wife. What about all other chiropractors, their families and practice members. So all our 24 yearly doses have to go to others, making the numbers really scary. Do you think some people are just taking too much of this stuff? Why is everyone so sick?

With the flurry of prescription drugs now being slickly marketed to the public, like Viagra, Rogaine, Claritin and Prilosec, it is obvious that the shift in societal consciousness away from chemical intervention is being felt where it hurts -- in the drug companies' pockets. Since some doctors are becoming more reluctant to prescribe, the companies are going directly to consumers.

I don't really know what the net danger of PPA might be, nor do I have any way to tell which medications are equally unsafe or worse. If this ingredient is bad, what about the countless others? I just know that as long as people want outside agents to address their inner ecology, entrepreneurs will be there to cash in. I also think that suffering a stroke because you wanted relief from a cold (a condition which would go away by itself anyway) is ludicrous.

The chiropractic approach is different, and when you think about it, much saner. We say, why not improve the body's overall health and well-being, and make the internal environment less conducive to malfunction?

Here's an example of frustration. A friend's aunt was diagnosed with hepatitis C, and decided to go on interferon, pretty heavy chemotherapy. I'm not commenting on her choice of treatment, that's up to her -- I just thought it was weird that she continued to smoke cigarettes, drink coffee and alcohol, eat sugar-laden foods and meat, and not pursue increasing her body's resistance with chiropractic, great nutrition, meditation, etc. Her rationale that "I feel so lousy from the chemo, I have to do something to feel better" is absurd, whether my heart goes out to her or not.

This refusal on our culture's part to take responsibility for creating inner health is epidemic, and it must stop, because people have been misled into thinking that health comes from outside, while every chiropractor knows the truth -- health comes from within, and nature can heal literally any health problem, as long as the raw materials are present -- a clean, balanced body, with proper control and communication - free from vertebral subluxations, and a belief structure that supports the healing process.

You and I have an obligation to promote not only correction of nerve interference, but also the shifts in lifestyle that lead to excellent results with our care. The common sense of the situation is just too glaring. We must rescue the public from the faulty thinking that has predominated over the last three or four decades.

I'm not suggesting that medicine is always bad -- I'm saying that first, let's be accountable to monitor and improve our internal environment, and then, apply heroic efforts only When really necessary.

Health comes from within -- tell everyone you know, and help them learn what to do about it.

Isn't It Curious?

-Isn't it curious that the FDA is now banning drugs that have been available for plenty of years?

-Isn't it curious that these "side effects" Haven't been disclosed sooner?

-Isn't it curious that society fails to realize that we are all a part of massive drug studies?

-Isn't it curious that no one becomes outraged when drugs are taken off the shelves, having been previously duped into thinking that they were good for us?

-Isn't it curious that there are people all over the world right now masterminding ways to get new drugs into our bodies; and most of us buy into it?

-Isn't it curious that people are rarely dying of old age anymore, even though the new drugs are getting "better"?

-Isn't it curious that the medical population will attribute this decrease to better diagnostic skills, and not a failure of their healthcare model?

-Isn't it curious that the American Medical Association's own statistics ranks medical care as the third leading cause of death, and no one complains?

-Isn't it curious that over 16,500 people die every year from the use of over the counter NSAIDs but nevertheless, sales of these rise with the increased advertising every year?

-Isn't it curious that the human body produces over 65,000 different drugs each day, and yet we think that we need to put more artificial drugs into our bodies?

-Isn't it curious?

-I find it curious...

Why is it that if a man violates man's laws, we send him to prison and point the finger of scorn at him but, if he violates nature's laws, we take him to the hospital, take pity on him, and send him flowers?

The reason why our society has never addressed the issue of health adequately is because when a person is healthy no one ever asks "why is he healthy?" They wait until he is sick and ask "what got him sick?"

Handwritten On The Wall Of Mother Theresa's Room

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered;
-Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
-Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
-Be successful anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
-Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
-Build it anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
-Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
-Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
-Give the world the best you've got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God;
It never was between you and them anyway.

"Look over there!

Can you see it?"

***This story came to me one night about a year ago. I shared it with a few friends who seemed to enjoy it. I thought it would make a good story for the holidays, and one of my wishes for the future.***

"No, not there, look a little more to the right, by the horizon. Follow the line of my finger. I'm pointing right at it," said the old man with the long gray beard.

"Nah, it's no use. I can't see anything," I replied.

"You may have to put your sunglasses on. It's very bright and there's a glare. Don't give up. Just once more, give it another go."

"Okay," I said, "one last look."

Finally it became clear. "I see it!"

What appeared left me speechless, and speechless is NOT familiar territory for me. In fact, I'd never seen anything as magnificent.

There, before my eyes, was what the old man was trying for years to describe. He wasn't mad at all. Others either refused to believe him or take the time to look. But, there it was.

Let me detail -- to the best of my recollection -- what I saw.

The children were the first to capture my attention. They were somehow different. I learned that they were adjusted from the moment of conception. At first, I thought the old man meant that they were adjusted from the time of birth.

He explained, however, that every pregnant woman was expected to take care of that child from conception. Extreme self-care during the pregnancy included weekly chiropractic adjustments to ensure the mother was providing best for her unborn child.

He went on to say that hospital births were unheard of. All children were delivered by midwives, with chiropractors there to check for subluxations at the moment of delivery. Few parents allowed medical practitioners to touch their children, until and unless the chiropractor said so.

I was astonished to learn that kids were checked for subluxations every day! I wondered how people could afford this level of service. The old man explained that every home was built with a subluxation evaluation device as standard equipment.

Since the schools would not allow children to enter with subluxations, it just became commonplace for parents to check them at home. Teachers were held to the same standards as well. They were not allowed to teach the children while subluxated.

Of course no community is without its challenges.

Many, once employed by the hospitals but then proven virtually unfit or too unhealthy to serve others, went jobless. Those trained in emergency care were transferred to a former fast food restaurant that now served as a trauma center.

Next, there was the challenge of placing the former employees of the pharmaceutical empire. Many of them took jobs at the prison as guards and groundskeepers. Ironically, as the health of the community rose, the crime rate fell.

That proved beneficial as the trials drew to a close.

Hordes of people were convicted of crimes against humanity. Vaccine manufacturers and insurance company executives were the first to be convicted. Life sentences were returned within minutes after their cases were heard.

Politicians and the pharmaceutical hierarchy were the next to fall. Collusion and conspiracy were the words commonly heard. The trials were over in days.

Billions of dollars were awarded, much of the money going to fund wellness campaigns. A significant amount was given in the form of grants to the chiropractic colleges to fund subluxation research.

Due to the high demand for chiropractic services, college enrollment was astonishing. Most of the practicing chiropractors worked feverishly to keep up with the demand for care. Lines for care spilled into the street from early in the morning until late in the evening.

The community flourished like none I'd ever seen. It was abundant and affluent. The people worked and played together harmoniously. Poverty, crime, and dis-ease were words in the history books.

Having witnessed it for myself and as we stand together upon the ledge of a New Future, I leave you with this thought (borrowed from John Lennon): "You may say I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us. And the world will live as one."

I wish you vision. I wish you fulfillment. I wish you peace fueled by dreams and powered by spirit.

Be well. Take extreme self-care. Be patient with yourself and others. Love more, laugh more. Lastly, expect more of life's sweet gifts because you truly deserve them.

Happy Holidays!!!
