These are just a few of the questions people regularly bring to me. When will my knee start feeling better? Will my headaches and dizziness continue to diminish now? Why is my boss such a jerk? How do I go about figuring out what I want to do with my life? What do I do to lose some weight and stop smoking? How can I get my husband in here? Do you have any suggestions on how I can be more patient with my kids? What can I do to strengthen my faith in God? What do you do to stay positive when so many things in the world are so negative?
My first question to each of these people was nearly the same - are they doing things necessary to be healthy? The list of things includes: Are they regularly exercising? Is their nutrition good for them? How much water are they consistently drinking each day? Are they getting enough rest? Are they breathing deeply and inhaling clean air? How many times per day would they say they have a good hard laugh? When was the last time they took just five minutes all to themselves? Are they getting their spines checked enough for their current situation?
You see the first thing to do when seeking answers to seemingly complex problems is not to employ some kind of new sophisticated or far out technique. The answer is to go back to the most basic and yet probably the most profound advice that was ever given to us by Gandhi.
BE the change you wish to see in the world!
Dan Millman, author of The Way of the Peaceful Warrior has called balancing your body the first spiritual practice. Your body is the only possession guaranteed to last a lifetime! We dream of traveling outside of the body - away from the seemingly inescapable fears and tears of the world. But we cannot travel out of the body and away from what we do not like in the world until we first fully engage in life! It is then that we will also have our eyes opened up to all of the beauty that exists right along side of the scary things.
In a balanced body, spirit and flesh join to create energy and abundance in our lives! Lord Chesterfield once said, "A light supper, a good night's sleep and a fine morning have often made a hero out of the same person who by indigestion, a restless night and a rainy morning would have proved a coward." Paul Dudley White, M.D. says that a vigorous walk does more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all of the medicine in the world! And finally, Gabrielle Roth puts it this way, "Your body is a metaphor for your life. In the marriage of flesh and spirit, Divorce is impossible!"
It is true that health is the beginning of being able to handle and come up with solutions to all of the terrible things we see in the world each day. But a strong and healthy body is also necessary for us to be able to begin seeing all of the beauty in the world as well! Dr. Wayne Dyer has said, "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." Gradually increasing our level of health helps us open our eyes and change the way we look at things.
Spend some time each day in solitude connecting with your Source. Laugh as often as possible. Breathe deeply and drink lots of pure, clean water. Eat a high energy diet full of fruits and veggies and their juices. Get plenty of movement and an adequate amount of rest each day. Exercise regularly, get some sunlight, stay clean, strive for balance and keep your nerve system clear by visiting your chiropractor every week.
Health is the BEGINNING of fully expressing your purpose and potential in life. Balance your body, and trust its innate intelligence. From this foundation, all else follows.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said that genius is the ability to make the complicated simple. In reality, most things are inherently simple already; it is WE who have complicated them! So to expand upon Emerson's words, genius is the ability to recognize the beauty and simplicity of all that is, and allow ourselves to joyfully dance within it! Let's look at health for example.
We have been told how hard it is to stay healthy by every doctor, magazine ad, TV and radio commercial and even our own teachers and parents. But the truth is that health is our natural state! When we allow our innate intelligence to be expressed at high levels in and through our bodies, we vibrantly express health automatically! Let me see if I can simplify this for you even more.
Here is a very simple truth that most people rarely think about consciously; Everything is always changing, including your body! It's really true. Nothing ever stays the way it is, so it is not actually possible to be EITHER healthy or sick . In every single moment, your thoughts, words and actions are either making you STRONGER, or they are making you WEAKER. Since this is true, you are probably wondering what it takes to keep your Life Force flowing at the highest levels and keep getting stronger all the time. That too is very simple. It really comes down to three things;
1) You must FOCUS on moving TOWARD what you WANT. You are the driver of the vehicle we call your body, and your focus determines which direction you will go. If you worry about what's wrong, what's missing and what you DON'T want, you will move toward it. If you think about what's right, what you're grateful for and what you DO want, you will move toward THAT. This is simple, but not always easy, so be patient with yourself and keep practicing.
2) You must make HEALTHY LIFESTYLE CHOICES that supply all of your cells with everything they need to function properly, heal and continue growing. I know there are millions of books available to tell you EXACTLY what to eat, when to eat it and how to eat it. But, you can simplify this too. Before putting anything into your mouth, simply ask yourself this question; will this clog me or cleanse me? You can also ask yourself what would make you stronger right now; exercise or rest. Then do whichever one makes the most sense. Simple, no?
3) You must maintain a CLEAR NEUROLOGICAL CONNECTION between your brain and all of the cells of your body. Without this vital connection, you cannot comprehend all of the information coming to you from both inside and outside of your body and respond in the way that will keep you getting stronger. Since your spinal cord is housed and protected by your spine, it is vital that you maintain normal alignment and function of your spine at all times! This is why getting checked by your chiropractor every week is so important.
It really is that simple! If you work on continually improving each of these three things, you will see yourself progressively growing stronger than you have ever been - maybe even stronger than you have ever believed was possible. And what will your life be like when you are beaming your Life Light so brilliantly? Well, all I can say is... LET"S DANCE!!!
